This is Coach. We call him that because he is a coach of the football variety. That means I can be delusional about our lives. I pretend to be Tami Taylor and that we’re living the dream in Dillon working all the day long at Dillon High School. Tim Riggins comes to dinner where I give him wise counsel. Oh, and I have Connie Britton’s hair. Listen, the pay isn’t great, but the fantasies are world-class. Especially the hair part.
But, back to Coach. I talk about him a lot because he is the one who bears witness to most of my life. He’s also my biggest cheerleader. He is good and honest and brave, which turns out are very difficult qualities to find in a man. He is also wickedly funny, terrifyingly smart, and he has the memory of an elephant. He will defend me to the death, and he does my laundry.
Which is one of the real reasons I talk about him. He’s borderline OCD which has a hundred benefits, but also comes with some idiosyncrasies. That’s where the fun comes in. If you’ve been here a while, you know all about him. If you haven’t, you’re going to want to stick around.
Stories about him are legendary.
